What You Need to Know Before January 2027 New Queensland Smoke Alarm Laws – Deadline 1 January 2027
Queensland smoke alarm legislation has been rolled out in stages over several years.
The final phase takes effect on 1 January 2027, and from this date every residential property in Queensland must be compliant — including owner‑occupied homes, rentals, properties for sale, units, townhouses, caravans and motorhomes.
If your smoke alarms do not meet the new standard by this deadline, your property may be non‑compliant with Queensland law.
